The Enghien auction house Goxe-Belaïsch is dispersing the 1,500-odd photographs patiently amassed by a collector, who took nearly forty years to retrace almost a century of the history of this art. The sale opens with several daguerreotypes: a revolutionary process officially presented by Daguerre to the Institut de France in 1839. Replacing engravings, these featured a wealth of subjects from documentary photography to saucy nudes.
