The invitation to travel.
Beautiful sale of original photographic prints, some of great rarity, all of interest.
The sale includes signed photographic prints of artists from the world of entertainment (Claude François, Sheila, Sylvie Vartan, ...), compositions and creations of the great names of photography (Bertam Park, Henri Cartier Bresson, Georgette Chadourne, ...), ... without forgetting the original prints of the artists.), ... without forgetting the pictorialists, the prints on the liberation of Paris, the universal exhibitions, fashion, entertainment, industry, ... and a very important set of travel photographs that can be related to the theme of "Grand Tour".
As was customary from the end of the eighteenth century, young people of European high society went on long trips to visit European countries and also those around the Mediterranean basin, with the aim of perfecting their education. In the 19th century, this "Grand Tour" became more and more interesting for art lovers and writers. The obligatory points of passage were of course Italy, Greece and the whole of the Near East, from Turkey to the Holy Land and Egypt. Orientalism and the colonial conquests will also see a growing interest in the Maghreb.
As soon as photography was invented, amateur and then professional photographers rushed into this quest for travel with the aim of bringing back to Europe "real" or "artistic" images of the emblematic places they visited.
We have with this sale a set of these typical photos, taken in the 19th century on salted or albuminized paper: Henry Cammas, Felix Teynard, ... forming sets from the best local photographers.
Obviously there is something to find happiness and enjoy with this sale between the great photographers of the XIX and those of the XX.
