Gilles OUAKI is a visual artist, a great reporter for Le Parisien and Paris Match. He worked as a photojournalist for more than thirty years, covering the major events of the time, such as the Grégory affair, the death of Mesrine and the attack on the Rue des Rosiers, for which he was awarded the Grand Prix de la Ville de Paris, as well as that of Paris Match in 1982. He also followed the celebrities of the time, including Serge Gainsbourg, David Bowie, Alain Prost and Yannick Noah. From this period Gilles Ouaki delivers in this sale some of his "vintage" photos, as he calls them, photos of Serge Gainsbourg shaving or in his office or of murders, photographs he is reluctant to show, out of respect for the victims, or the autographed helmet given to him by Alain Prost in 1992. At the same time he collects furniture and works of designers and artists of his time, such as A. Warhol, A. Segui, G. Laing, G. Aulenti, the Castiglioni brothers, E. Sotssas, P. Starck, V. Panton, I. Maurer, R. Arad, G. Pesce, André Villers, William Klein, posters of May 68, bought over time, often at the very moment of their publication, always taking care to obtain the complete series, then kept in good condition, often not even unpacked. Thus we will find in our sale a number of publications from Le Soleil Noir (Erro, R. Francken), Achille Mauri (Fontana, Castellani, Le Parc, Baj), Bill Copley's SMS periodical, the New Realists' suitcase, etc. His admiration for the painter Robert Malaval can be felt through the works presented by this artist, who died very young, with notably the rare and museum-quality white food Olida 1 Olida 2, the sequins, and the works on paper. Having worked a lot professionally with the Leica M and Leica Monochrom, Gilles Ouaki had the honour to be chosen with some other great photographers by the Leica company, to create in his name a Leica X1 personalized and edited in few copies, of which we have for sale the prototype.

In the 2000's he opens a new page in his career as a visual artist, helped by Robert Combas, with whom he was very close. He rubs shoulders with many artists and thus puts into practice the abundance of his ideas which lead to the invention of "collaborative hybridization", a process during which "the work of each of the two artists is used as a support for the other to highlight a common expression resulting from the dialogue of two sensibilities". Of this closeness with Robert Combas, the sale includes many testimonies, very personal and sometimes very intimate, such as the dancer with a cannon, a wooden prototype for the resin edition model, signed works or books, painted pebbles or the drawing "Sophie". Hybridization works are found throughout the sale, such as those with Erro, Peter Klasen, Orlan, and the young generation of French or foreign street artists. From his exhibition "Bye Bye polaroid" at the Wharf, the contemporary art center of Basse-Normandie in 2009, the sale includes a hybridization work with Orlan.
