COPPENS (Willy) Belgian aviator and writer, World War I ace, - Lot 6
COPPENS (Willy) Belgian aviator and writer, World War I ace, nicknamed by the Germans Le Diable bleu (1892-1986) Autograph letter signed and 2 autograph cards signed to Dr. F. Fossier. Fossier (Belgian postal stationery) La Panne, Belgium, March 12, 1970, September 12, 1974, 1 p. 1/2 in-16, each, and July 8, 1974. 1 pp. in-folio. I'll take care of satisfying you," announces Coppens to the doctor, eager to complete his biography. "You'll have my precise notes shortly. I wish you every success in your endeavor. It will fill a gap, as the dictionary by Houart and Petit, published by Seghers, is quite imperfect... . The 2 cards, dated 1970 and 1974, refer to his health problems, in particular his trouble sleeping and digestion. He points out the consequences of his treatment, specifying his preferences. He does, however, allude to the aviator Bellonte, and he indicates that Bellonte is worthless, boastful like our Teddy Maurice Franchomme, president of the Vieilles tiges Belges, from which I resigned long ago. Franchomme spent twelve months in a fighter squadron, with no victories but plenty of cinema, and then ambushed in the rear... . Attached is a modern postcard published for the Air Festival, July 14, 2005, Plage de l'Océan, Saint-Brevin-les-Pins, with numerous signatures on the reverse.
