Nathaniel SICHEL (1843-1907) Two Sisters. Graphite signed, located Nierstein and dated 26/6/65 lower right. 36 x 25 cm Born in Mainz, the painter Nathaniel Sichel is best known for his portraits of women. He concentrated on black personalities. These Oriental women are often depicted in antique clothing. After a long stay in Rome, Sichel studied in Paris and exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1865. At the end of the 1840s, he settled permanently in Berlin, where he opened his own studio.
