NUREMBERG, 17th century. Covered vermeil... - Lot 137 - Goxe - Belaisch - Hôtel des ventes d'Enghien
NUREMBERG, 17th century. Covered vermeil GOBELET decorated with cupules, the ball-shaped lid resting on foliage. 17th century. Master-smith Michael MADER (1573-1632) received his maitre in 1598. Weight 120 g H. 11 cm (Wear to gilding). Michael Madera's life seems to have been an adventurous one. In 1612, he was accused of being the owner of stolen goblets. He appeared in court several times. His specialty was goblets in the shape of bunches of grapes. Goblets and chalices of this type made by Mader are in the Metropolitan Museum, New York, and the Victorian and Albert Museum, London.
