VALERY (Paul) French writer, poet and philosopher... - Lot 40 - Goxe - Belaisch - Hôtel des ventes d'Enghien
VALERY (Paul) French writer, poet and philosopher (1871-1945) Autograph letter signed to one of the co-authors of the scientific work, Quelques suggestions concernant la Matière et le Rayonnement , published in 1928, in which the authors Th. Coppel, Georges Fournier and the physicist Yovanovitch, evoke a non-archimedean geometry, to study the intra-atomic phenomena. Paris, June 2, 1929. 1 p. _ in-4. Magnificent letter concerning the reading and his reflection on this work, published in 1928. I have received your little book of Suggestions. It contains many more than it has pages. I am particularly interested in the ideas I find in it about the eternal question of time, the enigma of which has often occupied and tired my mind. I will tell you in passing that I do not share the opinion expressed on page 12 about the time internally perceived. I have never been able to consider it as continuous; I believe that it is the effort or the will of introspective attention that gives an ephemeral sensation of continuity. This continuity is thus carried away, or implied by the observation itself. Moreover, if I were to confess my feeling, I would tell you that I would willingly proscribe the very name of time from the precise language - whether it is psychology or physics! I also find in ""Suggestion, precious remarks on the essential and henceforth inevitable question of the differences of scale... . The work in question is attached. (A paperback volume in-8 of 46 pages, with original printer's cover).
