Wladyslaw SLEVONSKI, Polish painter, associated... - Lot 16 - Goxe - Belaisch - Hôtel des ventes d'Enghien
Wladyslaw SLEVONSKI, Polish painter, associated with the movement of the young Poland and the School of Pont-Aven (1856-1918) Set, 5 autograph letters signed to Roderic O'Conor. Paris, 1803/1804, Belle-Île-en-mer, August 3, 1804 and Munich, January 8, 1808. He thought that the O'Conors were in England and that they had forgotten France and Montparnasse. He would like to see them again in Paris, and tells them that he has written an article on Gauguin. March 27 [1903] the condition of his horse did not allow him to come to Pont-Aven. Did you work a lot? Is Chamaillard in Pont-Aven? February 5, 1904. He saw yesterday one of the organizers of the Indépendants, (Mr. de la Quintinie) who told me that the society would be very comfortable if you were among the exhibitors and promises that you will be well exhibited in a group of about fifteen people (among whom I will be)... The exhibition will take place on the 21st of this month and the paintings must be on the spot at the latest on Thursday, the 11th of February before noon. What will you do? . He is sending six paintings, and I would like this exhibition chore to pass as soon as possible, because I want to work and it prevents a lot. I hope you will send something too... . He is in Belle-Île, on August 3, 1804, and worries about not receiving any news from O'Conor, and tells him about his stay on the island, where he has not yet seen the sea, but a blue lake with rocks overheated to make your eyes pop out of your head. A blinding sun, not the slightest shadow! I am disgusted, I have spoiled many paintings, but I could not do anything good. From Munich, he grumbles at O'Conor for not having any news. We don't even know anymore if you still live in Paris and in Paris the rue du Cherche-Midi. We have often thought of you, linked to the memory of the peaceful life we led in Paris and in Brittany, especially in comparison to the wild events we went through in our charming country. He reveals the inspiration caused by the snowy landscapes. The best moment was still the one of the winter spent the few months, which we spent buried in the mountains under the snows of a few meters height not seeing a living soul! But what fabulous snow effects it was to go crazy! It was almost impossible to take advantage of this beauty to paint because of the cold. I tried anyway several times, I am not too dissatisfied with the result, but each canvas cost me a good rum (sic) of brain... . He plans to stay in Munich for some time. The atmosphere here is not very pleasant. All you see is crusts and beer - the crusts are horrible but the beer is good. The artistic level is so low here, that you don't even want to exhibit... .
