CHADWICK (Francis Brooks) American painter,... - Lot 12 - Goxe - Belaisch - Hôtel des ventes d'Enghien
CHADWICK (Francis Brooks) American painter, active in France (1850-1943). He married in 1887, the Swedish painter and engraver Emma Löwstädt (1855-1932). The Chadwicks settled in Grez-sur-Loing, an artists' colony composed mainly of Scandinavian and American painters, where they lived a large part of their lives. Autograph letter signed in English to Roderic O'Conor. Grez, May 29. 4 pp.in-8.He explains to him the few difficulties he encountered concerning his easel. Indeed, the workshop being closed and the owner refusing to allow him access, he cannot entrust it to the carpenter for possible repairs. Chadwick asks O'Conor to intervene and write directly to the owner so that he can move the matter forward. He goes on to tell her how ridiculous the Salons are and that only one work deserves special attention, Balzac by Rodin, which he says is wonderful for a man of his age. He ends by telling him that he has never known in Grez, a spring so gloomy.
