Bertram Park (1883-1972). Portrait of Tamara... - Lot 18 - Goxe - Belaisch - Hôtel des ventes d'Enghien
Bertram Park (1883-1972). Portrait of Tamara Karsavina in the title role of "The Firebird". Rare silver photographic print, mounted on an original sheet of paper, signed lower left on the mount "Bertram Park", studio drystamp lower right on the print. Circa 1910. Dimension 20,4 x 15,9 cm. Nice condition. "The Firebird" is written for the 1910 Parisian season of Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes company. Created at the Paris Opera on June 25, 1910, it was immediately a huge success, as much for the dance as for the music of Russian composer Igor Stravinsky. The costume worn by Tamara Karsavina was designed by Léon Bakst and represents her with a large feathered headdress decorated with long braids. Tamara Karsavina was the star dancer of the great era of Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. To escape the Bolshevik revolution she moved to London where she taught and participated in the creation of the Royal Academy of Dance.
