[Georges LEYGUES] Set of letters and documents... - Lot 25 - Goxe - Belaisch - Hôtel des ventes d'Enghien
[Georges LEYGUES] Set of letters and documents addressed to him, within the framework of his private life and his action as a benefactor and sponsor, for the rebuilding of the church of Saint Catherine in Villeneuve-sur-Lot. Georges Leygues was deeply involved in financing the reconstruction of the new church. Several architects participated in this reconstruction, including Edouard Corroyer, Lucien Roy and Gaston Rapin. Georges Leygues, to whom the project was close to his heart, devoted himself resolutely to this renovation by subsidizing this action with substantial donations for the progress of the work. The painters and sculptors Alice Desca, Edmond Desca and Antoine Bourlange also cooperated in this project. All these letters deal with the work undertaken for the church of Villeneuve sur Lot. Georges LEYGUES, 10 pp. of autograph notes or minutes of letters addressed to Antoine Bourlange concerning the design and the location of the capitals. Gaston RAPIN, 6 autograph letters signed to G. Leygues. Superb correspondence spread out from June 16 to November 10, 1925. 14 p. _ in-8. All these letters, of which one with sketch, are charged of very important technical details related to the realization and the positioning of the capitals with a precision on the progress of work as well as on their establishments. Alice DESCA, 3 autograph letters signed to G. Leygues, [1924] 10 pp. _ in-8. About the drawings of the capitals and her indications for their positioning. She reminds him and specifies that the list of the drawings as well as their titles, were sent in 1919 to Antoine Bourlange. Antoine BOURLANGE, autograph letter signed to G. Leygues. 4 pp. small in-8. He sends him the requested plan and gives him details about the drawings received and executed by Gaston Rapin. We join 3 autograph letters signed by Pol NEVEUX, addressed to the daughter of Georges Leygues, Marie-Thérèse (11 pp. of various format, 1930, 1932). Beautiful friendly letters, full of poetry, in which he evokes the blissful charm of the stays spent near these hosts, shared by the torments of his professional activity, harassing and worrying. Also enclosed is a photo (Frachet), dated August 31, 1899, representing the construction site of the church of St. Catherine in Villeneuve-sur-Lot, and a printed card relating to the fêtes de Gascogne, of which G. Leygues was the President.
