CELINE (Louis Ferdinand) French writer and... - Lot 6 - Goxe - Belaisch - Hôtel des ventes d'Enghien
CELINE (Louis Ferdinand) French writer and physician (1894-1961) Autograph letter signed to Henning Jensen, who was in France, in Menton. Copenhagen, May 21, 1948. 4 pp. in folio. Retained envelope. A few lines at the end of the letter are written by Lucette. (Lucette Almensor, second wife of Céline in 1943). Beautiful letter addressed to her "Dear Friends" [to Else and Henning Jensen, a couple of painters, who had lent their apartment allowing Celine and Lucette to live in Denmark], referring to their departure from this apartment (studio) lent by the Jensen's. Celine informs his hosts that he and Lucette are leaving their studio, which they occupied, a departure that was desired and advised by several doctors to live in the country, both of whom were ill. Céline confirms that the rent is paid until June 30 and that the landlord has been notified. "So here is your free space. We won't come back". He wants this apartment to be perfectly clean after their departure. To this end, he gave the key to the janitor to "sweep up". He gives the address of their Danish lawyer Thorvald Mikkelsen, so that they can exchange. Finally he thanks the Jensens for the great service they have done, "by lending us your apartment at such a critical time. I regret, without having understood anything, that your relations could not have been more followed and more friendly with Mrs. Pirazzoli. That would have facilitated many things...". Finally, Lucette tells him that the electricity is paid for until May 3. "When you return, you will give us our bill from the 3rd to the 26th. Please!".
