[MADAGASCAR] Sugar cane planter sitting on a wheelbarrow in front of his production. Woman from Madagascar dressed in Western clothing. 2 ambrotypes circa 1860. 11.5 to 8.5 cm and 9.5 x 7 cm. Blackened wooden frames for each subject 25.5 x 21.5 cm. Portrait of a child in bust, daguerreotype circa 1855. 1/9 plate format (7.5 x 5.5 cm) presented under mat 14.8 x 12.7 cm. Enclosed is a cardboard box of photographs including family albums from the 1880s - 1830s as well as numerous views of Madagascar in the 1930s. Malagasy markets, pottery market, festivals, inauguration of the Water and Electricity Service, racecourses, sedan chairs, military magazines, colonial houses. Various formats including 13 x 18 cm. Provenance, for some photographs, of Mr. Cochard senior administrator chief of the region of Fianarantsoa.
