[DAGUERREOTYPE - NAVY]. Louis-Cyrus MACAIRE... - Lot 10 - Goxe - Belaisch - Hôtel des ventes d'Enghien
[DAGUERREOTYPE - NAVY]. Louis-Cyrus MACAIRE (Saint Laurent en Caus, 1807-1871). Ship at sea, circa 1851-1853. Very rare plate daguerreotype _, signed C. Macaire, with drypoint on the plate, lower right. On the upper left are two identical CHRISTOFLE punches. In an oval, the punch represents a balance surrounded by two letters C and surmounted by 4 stars. 10.7 x 8 cm. Presented under a modern mat in 20.5 x 17.5 cm format, the back of the plate under glass is visible. Collection: only two daguerreotypes of this photographer are known to date. One is kept at the BNF, Vessels Leaving the Port of Le Havre by Louis-Cyrus Macaire & Macaire-Warnod Jean-Victor (1812-after 1886). It was exhibited in 2003 at the Musée D'Orsay on the occasion of the exhibition Le daguerréotype français, un objet photographique . Reproduction in the catalogue page 271. Unless we can find a way to force nature to continue to move on the images it allows itself to be stolen, it is safe to assume that it will not give up anything more. The work of these heliographers requires special mention. The marine paintings of these gentleme
