Eric Bagge was an active artist in the 1930s.
" His furniture, as well as his objects and fabrics, are extremely rare on public sale. Yet he appears prominently in all the works devoted to 20th century creators. It was at the Salon d'Automne in 1919 that this artist of Swedish origin first exhibited furniture with geometric and architectural forms. From 1920 to 1929, he took part in the salons and pavilions of decorative artists with furniture initially inspired by the decorative branch of art deco, veneers inlaid with ivory, marquetry of flower baskets, before moving on to more geometric creations and fabrics with straight lines. From 1922 onwards, he had his furniture and decorative sets edited by the Galeries Lafayette workshop, La Maîtrise, created the previous year by Maurice Dufrêne. In 1925, he presented the boudoir and bathroom of a French Embassy at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris and, in 1937, he was commissioned to design several pavilions for the International Exhibition, including the teaching pavilion. In 1929, Éric Bagge took over the management of the furniture store Le Palais de marbre, opened at 77, Champs-Élysées, by Mercier Frères. In the field of textiles, he worked for Rodier, for the MFTC (French Carpet and Rug Manufacture) with Follot, de Feure, Benedictus and Crevel. It was with Lucien Bouix that he signed an exclusive contract in 1928; he supplied him with fabrics and carpets with geometric designs and a palette that was both lively and harmonious. He also worked for several liners, including L'Ile-de-France and L'Atlantique, and fitted out his apartment on rue Magellan, near the Champs-Élysées, with furniture and draperies with geometric designs and austere lines.
